Market Sectors and Business Applications

Individually we have worked on in a large number of Market Sectors on just about every type of data processing environment and it is this breadth as well as depth of experience that underpins our pattern based approach to Enterprise Data Architecture.

This is a summary of the major Market Sectors that we have experience in (though by no means exhaustive or exclusive):

2.Investment Banking

Following on from our expertise in Financial Markets Information we have been engaged by a number of Investment Banks as well as the International Securities Market Association (ISMA) to provide architectural advice in Middle-Office and Back-Office activities to support investment banking and are currently the main consultants in producing the Corporate Data Model for a major Investment Bank combining the best features of all the Financial Data related models mentioned above.

3.Transportation

Booking and Availability Management application built around a Data Warehouse with a Message-based front-end (Top-End) containing all Flight Bookings made through the airline and its affiliated airlines and predictive curves identifying future booking trends in order to maximise revenues by adopting a bid/offer approach to ticket pricing.

As part of this engagement we provided the overall data architecture and designs for the back-end data loading and analytics capability as well as modelling the data storage requirements.

From these engagements we gained an in-depth knowledge of work-load planning, network optimisation and predictive analysis techniques that can be applied to any business sector that has complex point-to-point and seasonal activity.

4.Standards Setting & Regulatory Bodies

As well as our commercial activities we are also actively engaged with a number of standards setting and regulatory bodies in defining data and inter-operability standards for use by commercial organisations in various industries. These include:

·         International Business Entity Identifier (IBEI) for FISD

·         Unstructured Information Management Working Group for OASIS

·         FpML Business Rules Working Group

·         Bond Trade Matching and Settlement for International Securities Market Association (ISMA)

·         Home Information Pack Technical Standards

·         Energy Performance Certificates

·         SAP-2005/08 Specification for calculating building energy efficiency and performance for European Union directives.

An important aspect of all of this work is meeting the need for consistently defined and reusable interface specifications that allow disparate organisations to transparently communicate with each other in an independent and non-proprietary business environment.

5.Other Business Functions

As well as the above market specific engagements we have also been engaged in providing solutions to many of the horizontal business applications that cut across virtually all market sectors, including:

·         Financial & Management Accounting

·         High volume Product Licensing

·         Document Management & Publication

·         Customer Relationship Management

·         Business Intelligence and Decision Support Systems

·         Production Planning and Monitoring

In many cases the data patterns present in each functional area zare repeated with little variation across other related business functions so we often find, even when addressing new functional areas, that we nearly always have the answer already.
